Natalia Urzola Gutiérrez is on the Editorial Board of the Global Pandemic Network (GPN), an international network of scholars that promote debates and research in relation to the legal, economic and social aspects of pandemics, both from a reactive and precautionary perspective. Her current research focuses on the differentiated impacts of COVID-19 in ethnic communities. She is also working on research related to climate change litigation in Latin America, as well as the gendered dimensions of climate change discourse.
Natalia’s practice focuses on environmental, constitutional, administrative and human rights law. Previously, she clerked for three Justices of the Consejo de Estado de Colombia. Later, she went on to work in the private sector as the legal coordinator of an environmental law firm. She was also the Pro Bono Coordinator of the law firm, where she had the opportunity to conduct research regarding fundamental and human rights violations in Colombia.
Natalia is a lawyer from Universidad de Cartagena – Colombia, with a graduate specialization in Environmental Law from Universidad Externado de Colombia. She holds two masters: one LL.M from the University of California at Berkeley, where she was named to the Dean’s List upon graduation, and one with an emphasis on civil and State liability from Universidad Externado de Colombia.
At Berkeley Law, she earned the William Coblentz Civil Rights Scholarship and served as a graduate research fellow for the Othering and Belonging Institute. Her master’s thesis was entitled ‘The Rights of Nature: a means to achieve environmental peacebuilding in Colombia’.
Natalia is also a Board Member of the International Action Network for Gender Equity and Law (IANGEL).
