Astrid Milena Bernal Rubio is a Colombian PhD student at the University of Melbourne and a member of the Melbourne Climate Futures Academy, researching on private investment for energy transition in Australia and the US. With guidance from Dr. Jaqueline Peel and Dr. Ben Neville, she focuses on climate change risk factors, corporations, and human rights. Astrid holds an LL.M. from Pennsylvania State University,a Master's in environmental law from Complutense University-Spain, and specializes in human rights and critical legal studies (CLACSO -ELAP). She has worked with local and global organizations(E.g. Global Forest Coalition, GFLAC, Brighter Green, Seeding Sovereignty, WRI, and Green Faith). She co-founded the Colombian NGO CAMBIUM, and has managed campaigns on climate change and deforestation for several years, including global campaigns against unsustainable livestock. Her work aims to enhance climate action and protect the rights of vulnerable communities and ecosystems.
